“…every living creature on earth dies alone.”

A friend asked me today what my greatest fear was, and the first thing that came to mind was this quote. It’s from one of my favorite movies, Donnie Darko. I like to believe it’s a movie about a person’s importance; how their thoughts, words, and actions cause ripples in the world around, disrupting a carefully crafted equilibrium. Whether these ripples case destruction or creation, they changed something.

That’s why this quote speaks to me. Because what’s the point of making these changes if you die alone? What’s the point of even trying, when the one thing that comes for everyone is greeted alone?

The thought of it frightens me. I don’t want to die alone.
